Publisher’s default font
I love books and readings. I feel that if I do not read something for a while, I started to lose my sanity.
Nowadays, I mostly read on my digital devices e.g. cell phone, iPad and Kobo ebook reader. But I love reading physical books. If you love books, you already know this - the smell of a new book, turning pages, running your fingers over the pages of the book and the sound of it - it is a heavenly feeling.
Another great aspect of a physical book is its design. The illustrations, the selection of fonts and most physical thing of all - the size of the book. These things distinguish a book from another book and create an impression of that book in your mind and in the bookshelf.
Unfortunately, on ebook (except pdf), those physical aspects are missing. I mean it is a digital item and you cannot touch it. An ebook may have some images, but you will find that these images do not distinguish an ebook from another ebook. The closest things you get to those physical aspects of a physical book is the font selected by the publisher at the time of designing the book. When you read an ebook on your ebook reader (i.e. any computing devices as well as ebook reader), you can virtually change almost every aspect of an ebook. But by selecting the option to show the publisher default fonts, you can appreciate what the publisher is trying to tell, how they are trying to differentiate the ebook.
I mostly read ebook on my Kobo. Whenever, I read an ebook, I try to see what are the publisher’s default font - to understand what the publisher is trying to say.
