Sakib Al Hasan has been banned from Cricket by ICC for two years (one of these two years is suspended i.e. he will be able to play after year). He was accused of not informing an approach by the bookies. Apparently, there were several discussions between the bookies and Sakib, but he never notifies ACU of ICC. Sakib admitted his part and thus the punishment.

Now, there is a big discussion going on about Sakib’s act. Some say it is a conspiracy, some say it his fault. Some are steadfastly blaming Sakib by claiming that he is not an honest person. If you ask me, I would say the ban is justified. Sakib not only failed to report the correspondence with the bookies, but he also deleted some of the chats with the bookies. Why he did that?

But I am not ready to blame him in this debacle. I mean why should we judge Sakib in a separate criteria when the whole country is engaged in corrupt activities. Yes, the mass people are not engaged in corruption, but they are forced to play their part in the corruption. Corruption is everywhere. When almost all of the people in power is engaged in corruption, why the players should be different. They are a part of this society also.

To demand that one group of people (e.g. judges, teachers, doctors, and now players) should be different in a corrupt country, is not practical and justifiable. You see, these people are part of the society and everything happens in a society also affect them, touches them. Corruption is like a cancer, it spreads every part of the body unless it is cured or checked.

When a player who plays for the national team sees that everybody around him is making money through corruption, it temps him/her. When corruption is everywhere, it becomes the norm and acceptable. So, why a national player should not be a part of it. If he or she does so, we cannot blame him or her for that.
